LINDA BOWEN PHILLIPS

Linda Bowen Phillips left us for a better place on July 11, 2023, with family by her side. She was born in Suffolk, Virginia on Jan. 15, 1938, to Ruth Peele Bowen and Alfred Dale Bowen Jr., who preceded her in death. She was married to the late L.F. Phillips, Jr, for 55 years and leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth McCormick (Hugh), son, John Phillips (Tina), grandson, Chase Phillips, brother, Alfred Dale Bowen III (Barbara), brother-in-law, J.C. Phillips (Lela), niece, Jennifer Morrison (Stuart) son Charlie, and nephew, Chris Phillips (Shara) and son Jax.
Linda graduated from Suffolk High School in 1956. She attended Mary Washington College and graduated from MCV/VCU School of Radiological Technology. Upon graduation, Linda worked at MCV until marrying the love of her life, Frank, in 1961. She next began her career at Williamsburg Community Hospital where she worked for 34 years and retired as Administrative Director of Radiology in 1996.
Linda served on the Board of Directors at Walter Reed Riverside Hospital and on the Board of Directors of the Gloucester Samaritan group for many years. She loved fundraising for charity and was instrumental in organizing numerous fundraisers for community organizations.
She was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Gloucester Women’s Club, and the N. River Circle of the King’s Daughters. Vacationing at the beach with family and friends was a favorite pastime. Linda loved cooking and was known for her fried chicken. She especially enjoyed hosting extended family for the holidays and cooking her favorite Southern dishes.
The family wishes to extend our sincerest gratitude for the wonderful care and support given to Linda by Dr. Ron Haggerty and Kacki, Dr. Vikrant Brar, the staff of VCU Tappahannock Hospital, the staff of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Patricia Baker, Natalie Lomax, and Sherita Gray. A graveside service officiated by the Reverend Sven L. vanBaars will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Providence Road, Hayes.
