Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry will kick up its heels, and take patrons back to the “good ole days” of country and rock and roll when it hosts its oldies show on Saturday at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30.
The show will feature the house band, Shades of Country, and all of the Opry singers, including some special guests, performing the best songs of yesteryear, along with a tribute to the great Motown hits.
“Our oldies shows are the most requested each year and this year, we are excited to be adding in a tribute to Motown hits,” said Opry president Lynda Smith. The audience will hear hits by Patsy Cline, Waylon Jennings, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and many others.
Mathews’ own Hunter Owens will join cast members Lynda Smith, William Earl Sadler, Ralph Motley, Richard Smith, Shane Norris, LeighAnn Abbott, David Shuber, Sam Hogge, Mike McDevitt, Susan Ripley, Tracy Hill, Faith Kemp, A.J. McKeen and Mike Gregg on stage.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Mathews Visitor Center in Mathews and Marketplace Antiques on Route 17 in Hayes. Tickets are also available at the door on show night starting at 6:30.
