Li’l Ole Opry to perform classic country, rock songs

Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry will kick up its heels on Saturday night, and take the audience back in time to the “good ol’ days” of country and rock and roll. Saturday’s show at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School will feature the house band, Shades of Country, and all of the Opry singers, including some special guests, performing the best songs of yesteryear, along with a tribute to the great Motown hits. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30. “Our oldies shows are the most requested each year and this year, we are excited to be adding in a tribute to Motown hits,” said Opry president Lynda Smith. The audience, she said, should be prepared to reminisce with songs from Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Ronettes, The Temptations and many others.
