Lighthouse work picks up

Mathews County Planning, Zoning and Wetlands Director Thomas Jenkins said that work on New Point Comfort Lighthouse has picked back up after the bad weather in January and February. He visited the structure on Tuesday and reported afterward that all interior mortar repointing and some exterior repointing are complete. Exterior joint grinding and paint removal are almost complete, as well. In addition, he said the steel plate for the lantern room floor, the stainless steel access ladder to the lantern room, and the replacement windows have all been fabricated and delivered, and the material for the gallery deck is being excavated and shipped from New England this week.
