Library’s computer guy focuses on ‘the human element’

Greg Lewis is Mathews born and bred.

The 1988 Mathews High School graduate went on to earn a degree in geography from Mary Washington College (now University), but he didn’t need to use that degree to find his way back home.

This “home-grown” young man cares about the people of his county and it shows. A longtime staff member at Mathews Memorial Library, Greg is always there to help, and has helped many residents become familiar with using computers and all they give the world.

Lewis started working at the library in 1996. At that time there were only two computers in the facility, and they were for staff use only.

“One was used probably once a year to send a report to the state library and the other was used to print card catalog cards,” Lewis said, adding proudly that “I have seen dramatic changes in how technology is used by libraries since that time, and so I have always tried to keep the Mathews Library on the cutting edge with technology.”
