Letter: WWI, WWII museum on wheels comes to Mathews

Save the dates!  On Saturday, Aug. 4, and Sunday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Mathews Memorial Library will host the Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission’s Profiles of Honor mobile tour with its interactive exhibit in front of the library, 251 Main Street.

The Virginia General Assembly created the commission to plan, develop, and carry out programs and activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of WWI and the 75th anniversary of WWII.

The 36-foot-long museum on wheels covers each branch of the military with many artifacts and letters from Virginia’s soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen of both wars. This mobile facility also offers the opportunity to preserve the legacy of our veterans when you bring your family’s WWI- and II-related photographs and letters to be scanned for inclusion in the mobile exhibit.
