Editor, Gazette-Journal: The recent referendum on redistricting has given me some thoughts. The arguments used by the “no” group in their ads is that gerrymandering is a very bad thing, by depriving the voters of one party from having any real effect on the outcome of the election. Meanwhile, in Texas, that government has already proceeded with a gerrymandered redistricting which clearly favors one party. There was no referendum to give voters the opportunity to provide their opinion because the president of the United States had commanded the Texas government to proceed in this manner; the president has no constitutional power to interfere in the management of any state’s election process. One of my thoughts is to wonder if the “no” leaning Virginia voters had been living in Texas would they vote “no”? I leave you to your own thoughts … David EvansGloucester Point, Va....
