Letter: Working together for the benefit of all

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

For over a year, Mathews’ residents have expressed concerns about perceived dysfunction on the Board of Supervisors. To the six residents who applied to step in and serve an interim term, thank you.

Thank you, Edwina, Charles and Amy for selecting Mike Rowe for the position. Mike has a substantial record of commitment to Mathews County as well as demonstrated strategic planning, budgeting, governance and leadership skills. And, thank you, Pepper. Remembering the children’s story about an undressed Emperor, Pepper took a courageous step when he publicly observed the equivalent of “the Emperor has no clothes.”

I applaud you all and join others in supporting our board as members work together to use resources wisely; invest in our children, ensure public safety; provide a safety net for our most vulnerable; and protect our precious environment.
