Letter: Williams Wharf residents did not speak in opposition

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The March 29 Gazette-Journal article titled "Mathews supervisors turn over ownership of Williams Wharf" requires clarification. As written, the article leads the reader to believe Williams Wharf Road residents Tom Eley, Trimmie Richardson, Steve Wilson and Linda Wilson spoke in opposition to the conveyance of the land. We did not speak in opposition; in fact, we spoke during the period assigned to those who neither support nor oppose the issue—a period that follows those who speak in opposition.

Mr. Eley stated he supported the transfer of ownership after reviewing the proposed Deed of Gift of Easement that answered his concerns about public access to and oversight of Williams Wharf.
