Letter: Why?

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

There is concern in the community that local Republican supporters are lobbying to replace our electronic voting machines and to eliminate early voting. The question is WHY?

Over 50 federal judges have dismissed claims of fraud or of voting irregularities in the last election. The U.S. Republican Attorney General stated publically that there was no widespread election fraud in the last election. Even the Virginia Senate Privileges and Elections Committee found no evidence in the bills on this subject presented to it.

Electronic machines are accurate, greatly speed the results of our elections, and there is a paper backup. Early voting is a huge benefit to those who cannot vote on Election Day. The more that can vote strengthens our democracy. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
