Letter: Who decides?

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

“In addition to adding this item to the August agenda, the school board also unanimously voted against having the question of the name change placed before county voters on the November ballot.” This is in regard to the possible renaming of Lee-Jackson school from an article in Aug. 6 Gazette-Journal.

This is unbelievable arrogance. School board members come and go when their terms of service are over. When these people were elected renaming Lee-Jackson school wasn’t an issue. Naturally we turn over decisions about our schools to the school board. This issue is much larger and there is a perfect opportunity for a referendum on it to let voters decide. What is the big hurry? I think the “big hurry” is they know citizens of Mathews, if allowed to vote on the issue, would overwhelmingly vote against it.
