Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The Gazette-Journal, in its recent Mathews food tax article, correctly pointed out that the supervisors didn’t say what the new tax would be used for. The residents and business people deserve to know why they are being asked to put out more tax money, especially at this time.

If the county has come up with new expenditures, they should certainly let the residents know what they are and justify this new burden. If the new tax is designed to relieve some pressure on real estate taxes, we would like to know by how much and when.
