Letter: Where Gibbs Stands

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

When reading Dee Russell’s letter in last week’s paper, I agree with her first three paragraphs. After that, not so much.

I will go straight to her last paragraph. I believe Mari Gibbs does not want to defund schools; she wants to use our tax dollars wisely. I believe Mari does not want to ban books, but wants to make sure parents are aware of what is in the books and is appropriate for the designated ages. As far as taking tax dollars away from schools, I believe Mari wants to use our tax dollars wisely, so people won’t choose other school options. We all should want the freedom to use our own tax dollars for another school if Mathews County isn’t performing up to standards.

I personally do believe we should not take federal funding if there are strings attached.

As for the children being malnourished if the schools don’t feed them—parents should seek Social Services assistance.
