Several Fairfax County school employees are being investigated by the Virginia State Police after allegations surfaced that they had helped several students get abortions without their parent’s knowledge. An amendment to the Virginia Constitution that would make this behavior legal has already passed the first hurdle.
The language of the resolution relative to this situation states “The Commonwealth shall not penalize, prosecute, or otherwise take adverse action against any individual for aiding or assisting another individual in exercising such other individual’s right to reproductive freedom with such other individual’s voluntary consent.” Outside of the home, the biggest influence on a child’s life comes from the school.
There is nothing in the resolution that protects a minor. In fact, I believe the wording in the resolution was specifically drawn up to protect the Fairfax employees and any who chose to do the same thing. School employees can’t give a stude...
