Letter: When it’s time to stop driving

Recently I had a concern about an elderly driver. I felt that I had a duty to my community to convince this elderly driver to give up her driver’s license. Although I discussed my concerns with her, she continued to drive.

I did some research and I found out that a person may report their concerns to the Virginia DMV, using the Medical Review Request form. The form allows the DMV to conduct a medical review of a licensed driver. The form is available on the DMV website, under “Forms.” The phone number for the VA DMV Medical Review Services is 1-804-367-1604.

The elderly driver decided to turn in her driver’s license, rather than take a vison, on-the-road-test or medical exam.
