Letter: What’s their fair share?

The “Wake Up” and the “Winners and Losers” letters in last week’s Gazette attempt to further cloud the real changes coming in the spending bill passed in Congress this week. Whenever these arguments come up, the first shout from the Left is make the rich pay “their fair share.” They never say, “Spend less.” I suspect their definition of rich is anyone making more money than they do, so they won’t have to pay their fair share. Here’s a fact. The top 50 percent of earners already pay 97.3 percent of all income taxes collected. The bottom 50 percent pay 2.3 percent. What’s their fair share? Since you feel so strongly about paying your fair share, will you donate your tax refund back to the federal government to help pay for all your wants? And there’s this. The fact that one person is a billionaire has nothing to do with your station in life. It’s on you.
