Letter: What would you have done?

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Let’s imagine you are a police officer. You turn down a street and see two young people walking in the middle of the road obstructing traffic. You roll down your window and ask them to get out of the road and the larger kid, 6’3” 300 pounds struts up to your window.

You try to get out of your car, but he pushes you back in and punches you in the face, blackening your right eye. You reach for your gun and so does he. The gun fires. The kid runs away. You regain your senses and step out of the car and order the kid to the ground. He has just committed an assault and battery on a law enforcement officer. He turns around, puts his hands in the air and taunts you. What are you going to do?  Shoot me? You keep ordering him to the ground. Now he lowers his hands and starts to rush at you.

What are your thoughts? Is he going to punch me in the face again? Is he going to take my weapon from me and kill me? You start firing. Hitting him in the r...
