Letter: What is their problem?

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The football players that refuse to stand for our national anthem must be painfully ignorant. They earn more money than most Americans dream of, and the laws that protect them (i.e., their contracts) are just a few examples of their good fortune in being an American.

What is their problem? Is it lack of knowledge or level of understanding? Is their ego greater than their ability to be thankful? No matter what their excuse for not respecting America, their behavior could have a negative impact on young people who love the sport, especially those who don’t have a good home life.

I hope the NFL will at least keep them off the field when the anthem is played and also remind them who pays their salary—the people—those who buy the tickets and watch on television. And the majority of them happen to love America.
