Letter: What is happening to Queens Creek?

We were astonished to learn last week through personal observation that the USCG removed all 12 of the red and green numbered channel markers and all the lights in the Queens Creek channel and replaced them with triangular “DANGER” signs making the creek unsafe for navigation and endangering the lives of those using the creek.

The rationale is that the creek is shoaling and dangerous to enter. A USCG Notice to Mariners (LNM 47/15 24 Nov 2015 http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/pdf/lnms/lnm05472015.pdf) states that during a recent survey, the USCG found only 2’-4’ of water in the channel. We beg to differ and believe that it is time to set the record straight on Queens Creek.
