Letter: What a surprise!

Editor, Gazette-Journal: What a surprise! I went to see, “Shrek Jr. the Musical” brought to us by our good friends at the Moose Lodge. My granddaughter was in the cast, and my grandfatherly duty was to watch her performance and tell her how good she was, whether she was or not. Not expecting much from a bunch of kids. She is 9, but I think the age limit is 18. They proved me wrong big time. As a former children’s Sunday School teacher, I found trying to get a bunch of kids in unison in anything is much like herding cats. It was very professional in every way. From costumes, to music, sound, lighting, to the evidence of long hours of practice, it was amazing. Timing with a canned soundtrack is critical and with music that varies in tempo it is not easy to be in the right place at the right time. Far as I could tell, the performance Saturday night was flawless. As a musician I know how hard it is to memorize lyrics. These kids (all of them) had a lot on their plate and they all came thro...
