Letter: We owe it to them

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

While I don’t normally embrace the idea that the solution to better education is to pour more money into it, in this instance I must highly endorse Ms. Little’s request for a salary increase for Mathews County’s teachers.

One has only to follow the accomplishments within the Mathews schools to see that Mathews highly achieves in academics, sports and extracurricular activities. And I have no doubt that the primary reason for this is the high quality of our teachers; and I firmly believe that the continual stream of ‘system improvements’ burdened on them do little more than increase their workload without any appreciable gain.

Moreover, while we are continually assured that inflation is virtually non-existent, any trip to the grocery store demonstrates the unreality of that contention.
