Letter: We need a plan

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

In my attempt to properly dispose of my late husband’s diabetic and other unused medical supplies (including both sharps and meds), I discovered that there is no apparent community resolve as to how to dispose of unused medical supplies.

Throughout the conversation of five phone calls to various medical facilities and pharmacies I was told “I believe the police used to have a drop box in the lobby, before COVID …,” “it is my understanding that CVS in Williamsburg has a drop box for the meds—not the sharps …,” “have you called Ask a Nurse? …,” “Walmart says Walgreens has a place …,” “What about the Free Clinic?” Really???

Just as people take their other waste to Waste Management, and just as they responded to the COVID virus by complying with masks, so (I believe) most people would be more than happy to have a common area designated for the collection of unused medical supplies, including sharps.
