Letter: We experienced a new kind of community

Thanksgiving Day has come and gone. The Community Thanksgiving Dinner is in our rearview mirror and was, by all accounts, a great success. Thank you to our volunteers and donors for your hard work and support!

COVID has done these two things (among many others): it has created need, and made it more difficult to meet the needs of others.

Abingdon’s Community Thanksgiving Dinner has served a double purpose in years past; it provided both community and dinner. Community meant something a little different this year. While we were not able to open our doors and share a meal at table with people in the area, we experienced a new kind of community. We are grateful for LightHouse Church, Ware Episcopal Church, Boy Scout Troop 113, Gloucester County CERT volunteers and many individuals who have helped make the event possible.
