Letter: We are patriots

Editor, Gazette-Journal:For several Tuesdays from 5-6 p.m., a group of Mathews citizens has gathered on the sidewalk in front of Liberty Square to exercise our First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. Some of us stand and others sit in lawn chairs. We carry homemade signs that express our discontent.Our purpose is to publicly object to actions of the Trump Administration that violate the U.S. Constitution and numerous federal laws. We gather each week because we love our country and are afraid the U.S. is descending into tyranny.One of the best parts of this experience is the interaction with the many people who drive by and demonstrate their support by honking, waving, or giving a thumbs up. As the weeks go by, the expressions of solidarity have grown to far outnumber the naysayers.If you object to innocent people being pulled out of their homes, churches, schools, and places of work by people wearing face masks, having no ID, and carrying no warrants, plea...
