Letter: Waving hand would be better logo

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Once again, regarding the divisive logo for Mathews County—I’ve received several calls and numerous comments at the local grocery store since the publication of my letter in the Readers Write section of this paper on Feb. 11. They thanked me and the others for our response to a supposedly done deal that they, too, disliked. I encouraged them and all others to write letters and contact our board of supervisors. We need to hear more from our citizens.

We moved to Mathews County in 1973 after a 20-year military career and immediately felt at home. When we were house hunting, most people that passed us lifted their hand or index finger of welcome. We found this so charming and most welcoming. Most people still do this, whether they know you or not.

Maybe a waving hand or index finger would be a good logo. It would say, “Glad you’re here.” This might be one among many good ideas for a better logo.

We don’t need an outside paid...
