Letter: Vote Yes on question number 2

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

We owe them. On Nov. 2, one of the questions on your ballot will be a state constitutional amendment requiring cities and counties to exempt 100 percent service-connected disabled veterans from property taxes on their homes. Vote Yes on question number 2.

While cities and counties are looking for ways to increase revenue, this amendment makes sense. Many organizations and corporations, even seniors are currently exempted if they financially qualify. I agree with the seniors’ exemption and will vote yes for the vets.

As a Vietnam-era (did not serve in ’Nam) veteran, I saw first-hand how our youth were treated and forgotten. Gladly, those same veterans today honor those who serve and strive to not let those who are damaged and broken be forgotten. We owe it to them. While our young veterans can look forward to a brighter future than those before them, the work is not done. Vote Yes.
