Editor, Gazette-Journal: Beginning this past Friday, the people of Virginia will unfortunately vote on an amendment to redistrict the state to specifically support one party over another. This amendment called the fair election amendment is everything but. Similar action has already taken place in Texas and it was wrong, it was also done in California and it was wrong. Now Virginia is trying to join these states to support the same wrong action. Virginia is the “Mother of Presidents” who provided leadership when the country needed it the most. We need to do it again and vote this illegal action down so the people of this state have proper representation based on their locality where they live regardless of their party affiliation. The district lines were created after the last census by a bipartisan committee to provide the best representation for its people.
