Editor, Gazette-Journal: Governor Abigail Spanberger and the Democrats campaigned as moderates, claiming to improve “affordability.” Unfortunately, “affordability” was a talking point, nothing more. Spanberger’s true colors were immediately displayed as “affordability” suddenly became new or increased taxes. This includes the state tax rate, which could be the highest in the nation, and increased property, sales, and car taxes, as well as road-use taxes. No aspect of everyday life has escaped the Democrats’ lust for more of your money: need a haircut or styling? Expect an Amazon or Grubhub delivery? Require home or auto repair? Or heaven forbid, use the internet? The Democrats have an unpleasant surprise for you.
