Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I am writing this in rebuttal to the TV ad promoting the redistricting amendment. The advertisement illustrates exactly how the voters are being deceived about fairness by the proponents of this amendment.
The advertisement states that the redistricting is in response to redistricting occurring in other states. The current districts in Virginia are completely fair. Virginia votes roughly 50 percent for Democrats and 50 percent for Republicans. Virginia is currently represented in Congress by six Democrats and five Republicans. It is a fair and accurate representation of how people vote in Virginia.
For proponents of the amendment to say they are restoring fairness is an outright lie. This amendment is an attempt to buttress the power of the National Democratic Party at the expense of Virginia voters. This amendment shows that the Democrat Party does not care about anything except controlling federal expenditures. The federal government spends about $7 trillion a year. As the welfare scandal in Minnesota shows, a lot of that money is being siphoned off to partisan donors and favored groups. Green energy companies receive billion-dollar subsidies from the government and then somehow manage to find tens of millions of dollars to kick back to the politicians who vote for their subsidies in the form of campaign contributions.
This amendment is nothing more than the Democratic Party saying its interests are more important than the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia’s Constitution, written by Thomas Jefferson, is nothing more than a scrap of paper to be ignored at will if the Democratic Party needs to. Integrity in politics needs to be restored; corruption needs to be rooted out. People should vote to reject this redistricting amendment.
After this amendment is rejected, Governor Spanberger should be impeached for violating her oath to defend and protect the Constitution of Virginia.
