Editor, Gazette-Journal: I am writing this in rebuttal to the TV ad promoting the redistricting amendment. The advertisement illustrates exactly how the voters are being deceived about fairness by the proponents of this amendment. The advertisement states that the redistricting is in response to redistricting occurring in other states. The current districts in Virginia are completely fair. Virginia votes roughly 50 percent for Democrats and 50 percent for Republicans. Virginia is currently represented in Congress by six Democrats and five Republicans. It is a fair and accurate representation of how people vote in Virginia. For proponents of the amendment to say they are restoring fairness is an outright lie. This amendment is an attempt to buttress the power of the National Democratic Party at the expense of Virginia voters.
