Editor, Gazette-Journal: The wording of the upcoming “redistricting” bill is incredibly deceptive and should be insulting to anyone paying attention. This is one of the most embarrassing, obvious power grabs in history and it’s couched as restoring fairness. The bill says: “Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?” Virginia Democrats claim it’s fair because Trump asked Texas to redistrict their state, but they don’t mention the most gerrymandered maps are in Democratic states, including Illinois, California and New Jersey, to name a few. They also fail to mention the Census Bureau admitted it bungled the 2020 Census, overcounting in the Democratic states while undercounting in Republican states.
