Letter: Vote No

Editor, Gazette-Journal: Who will represent us? In the proposed Virginia redistricting, the D.C. suburbs will have an unassailable majority of voters in five Congressional districts. Those majorities come at the expense of rural Virginians, notably us. We become part of CD-8, where the 39,000 potential voters in Gloucester and Mathews are overwhelmed by the 387,000 Beltway voters that would now be in our district. Who is our voice in Congress responding to … the 387,000 constituents who want to expand and protect the federal workforce and construct more Northern Virginia highways? Or the 39,000 constituents of Gloucester and Mathews counties, who want to provide for a clean Chesapeake Bay, quality jobs for our workforce, living wages for our watermen, and preservation of our rural way of life? We already have plenty of people in Washington whose focus is protecting government jobs and benefits. But who’s going to protect us? Don’t vote away our representation. Vote No on April 21. John...
