Letter: Vet appreciates Thomas Hunter luncheon

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I would like to thank the staff of Thomas Hunter Middle School for the warm reception on Nov. 11 for the Veterans Day lunch with the children at the school. I sat and ate with several other veterans, one from World War II (I believe he said he landed at Omaha Beach), another vet from the Korean War, and another vet that served in Vietnam. I retired with 22 years in the Army and I am a Vietnam-era veteran. What a great bunch of guys to have lunch with.

The children I sat with that visited us during their lunch period were great kids. Many of them came up and thanked us for our service, protecting them, and allowing them their freedom. I was impressed with those that came up and talked to us about our service. I truly believe these young minds will step up in the future and that our nation will have great hope.

Once again, I would like to say thanks to the staff and children of Thomas Hunter Middle School for an enjoyable lunch and for recognizing all the vete...
