There is no doubt that Russians meddled in our 2016 presidential election. Their efforts are well documented. From creating fake social media accounts that generated misinformation reaching thousands of undiscriminating social media users to hacking the DNC’s servers and passing troves of party members’ emails to Wikileaks for world-wide release.
They reached out to presidential campaign associates with supposedly damaging information on their opponent. Did they pass on false information to Christopher Steele too? Possibly. Why? It’s quite simple: to generate confusion, discord, and mistrust in the electorate.
Their malevolent messaging targeted contentious issues that stir Americans for the purpose of fomenting chaos. Divide and conquer: It’s an age-old strategy of war.
