Letter: USPS mismanagement

Editor, Gazette-Journal: I’m not sure why it took me so long to find this out, but I’m glad I did, better late than never. I discovered that when I mailed a letter from Gloucester to another resident in Gloucester, the letter goes automatically to Richmond, then back to Gloucester. Apparently, that’s true for the entire Hampton Roads area. On the face of it, this makes no sense to me unless, of course, the idea is to continue running the USPS into bankruptcy. The recommendation for some time has been to let private contractors take over the postal service. So, it comes down to who you know that would get that lucrative contract. Pretty sure they could ask a couple of 3-year-olds how to simplify and save money. Most likely wouldn’t be to add another few days of travel time and handling by multiple persons to get ’er done!
