Editor, Gazette-Journal: In my opinion, the terms “fairness” and “temporary” warrant close examination, especially in the context of proposed changes to our state constitution. It is important to consider what fairness means and to whom it applies when evaluating measures that will have a significant impact on our electoral process. The notion of a “temporary Constitutional Amendment” is unusual—how many of us have encountered such a concept before? I strongly encourage voters to research these questions, what is fair, and how the concept of temporality applies—before heading to the polls for the current special election. Understanding the implications of these terms is critical to making an informed decision. The proposed temporary measure will cover four election cycles: three for U.S. Congress members, two for U.S. Senators, and one for the President of the United States.
