Letter: Undermining the credibility of educators

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I’m writing in response to the recent decision made by the Mathews County School Board. Since nobody wants to speak about the “elephant in the room,” I will only say it’s a lie. It was reported in the Gazette-Journal article that the individual who called for the public hearing was reprimanded eight times for behavior which led to the smashing of dreams of a student.

No longer will he be able to follow his dream because of the continuation of behavior which was reprimanded and also reiterated by an e-mail by the then-acting school principal. So in a decision in direct interference of the school administration, the school board decided that these learned and capable educators were not smart enough to see “the writing on the wall.”

Not only has the school board failed in its duty to support and lead, they have given tacit approval and accepted responsibility for this behavior. No longer will an individual be accountable for ...
