Letter: Trump is restoring America’s myth

Donald Trump is the right president for this time. Here’s why.

Over the years, I have traveled in 37 countries, lived with people of all races and religions, in their own countries. And I am a trained sociologist.

Early on, everywhere I went I was embraced and celebrated as an American. It was lovely. And then something happened. I cannot place it in time or an event, but people turned against me as an American—even leaving the table when I named my nation. A bummer.

I’ve just finished an excellent book, “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” by Yuval Harari. In it, he clarifies the notion that humans create myths in which millions can believe—like the dollar, beautiful women, a nation, even gods.

America was once a worldwide myth of goodness, justice, strength and more. Whatever happened frayed and diffused our myth. If you listen to Trump’s speeches, he is recreating our myth. Detractors call his speeches lies. I call them restoring our myth....
