Letter: They refused to give up on me

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I would like to express my undying appreciation to the Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester. I appreciate their effort and man-hours it took from them for me to successfully complete and pass my GED. They were absolutely amazing. Currently incarcerated, I have very little to feel proud of. However, the volunteers took time out of their days to assist me in bettering myself and my future.

Though the surroundings aren’t the best, they still decided to help me. They provided all the materials. The workbooks, the calculators, paper and encouraging words were just a few of the things they provided.

They refused to give up on me. My tutor showed that she had more confidence in me than I had in myself. I would like to thank my tutor, my tester, the literacy program for supplying the materials, and all the other people behind the scenes. This may be petty to many, but it’s remarkable to someone who didn’t know a better way. Thank you.
