Letter: These are the facts

Editor, Gazette-Journal: My friend and I attended the meeting on Saturday morning at Living Waters Church about the four referenda questions passed by the General Assembly this year. We both support the redistricting referendum but were interested in learning what the advocates for voting no were saying. We were greeted kindly by the 20 or so other people in attendance and offered lots of material about the topics. We listened to the presenters and the questions asked by members of the audience. We came away with concerns about how at least two issues were addressed. The first was if the changes the amendment provided for are permanent or temporary. The answer given was ambiguous. The plain language of the amendment is clear: “Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness to the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistrict...
