Mathews County seems to have a knack for shooting itself in the foot lately. I listened in disbelief to the resource and time-consuming process the board of supervisors is about to undertake to seat a temporary replacement on the board at one of their busiest times of the year!
Worse yet, the notion that the current supervisors are “advertising the position and interviewing candidates like hiring an employee,” rather misses the point of representative government.
Seasoned Mathews Supervisor Charles Ingram’s assessment went unheeded, but his advice to take the next runner-up from the last election was without doubt the wisest choice.
