Letter: The violent record of Islam

I read the recent letter by Mr. Ralph Hutton of the Mattaponi Meeting of Friends (“Turning away refugees based on religion is wrong,” May 26 Readers Write) with interest, if not a bit of concern.

While it is certainly the moral code of most Americans that nurtures each of us to refuse to judge others on the basis of their religious affiliation; however, one does not do that code justice when they fail to take into consideration the predominant fact that Islam is not just a religion, but also a political doctrine that imposes itself by force over the cultures and rights of others. It is with that acknowledgment that I support Representative Wittman’s vote for HR 4038.

Mr. Hutton’s presumption of Islam as just another religion fails to define the true nature of Islam. It is an ideology that represents itself as a religion that advocates a demand to convert or die. The holy book of Islam, the Koran, is very clear on this tenet of Islam. ...
