Letter: The Spectator’s prayer

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I would like to share the Spectator’s prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you for guidance as I watch my daughter and her friends play high school sports. Let my shouts be encouraging, not disparaging. Let me be a gracious host, as well as a visitor. Let me teach my children to “do unto others …” Let good sportsmanship prevail. And, if my wretched memory fails, give me the vision of poor manners displayed by our neighbor to the south in our recent home and away matches as an example of what not to do. Let my feet never bang the bleachers as a distraction. May I never shout taunts via bullhorn at the opposition’s cheerleaders or players. Forgive my dark thoughts towards these individuals. May You creep into our schools in the hearts of all who enter. I humbly ask this in Your name. Amen.
