Letter: The right thing to do

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

A notice on the door of the Mathews Memorial Library requests that all patrons over the age of two wear a mask while in the Library. This is essentially a return to the COVID restrictions of months past. This is not mandated by the State of Virginia but it is the right thing to do.

Mathews is probably not the most sophisticated county in Virginia but we have a lot of common sense. And it is high time that we use it! This disease is not “fun and games.” This is a deadly serious business. This is not a question of “personal freedom.” Should we have the “freedom” to infect someone we don’t even know with a potentially fatal disease? Of course not! That is obviously absurd.

It is vitally important that we stay ahead of this problem rather than react to it too late. Wearing a mask is a pain. There is no question about that. But is it really that big of a deal? No! Of course not. And if it can save someone a lot of misery, why not do it? Good Grief! Just ge...
