Letter: The real story of the ‘Peggy’

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I was a bit disappointed at the lack of information when reading a front page story. This is about the Maritime Foundation article on the boat, the "Peggy." Here’s the real story:

The Peggy was originally built down Peary at the request of my granddad, Capt. Walter Burroughs. As my granddad got older, he handed this boat, which was named after my Aunt Peggy Pierce, to my dad, Capt. Richard H. Burroughs Sr. My dad manned this boat as captain for many years. He won the workboat race with the "Peggy" off of Bayside many years ago.

This boat stayed in our family till 1980, when my dad got leukemia and died. Then we sold it to Ed Grinnell, who was a worker on the boat for my dad.

Yes, we should honor such a fine man, but let’s get our stories straight.
