One of the president’s duties is to unite the county behind common goals. The current president is doing the exact opposite. He has issued over 100 unilateral executive orders and declarations of national emergencies to push his policies. But he has given zero formal addresses to the nation to explain these actions. With limited public and congressional discussions of many controversial issues, the country today has become deeply divided.
Perhaps the prime driver for this sad state of affairs is the biased reporting of major news organizations, both right and left. Before 1987, the Fairness Doctrine required all broadcast news organizations to present both sides of controversial issues. After 1987, most major news organizations developed a new business model that maximizes their advertising profits by angering their respective partisan audiences.
