Letter: The ‘Peggy’ is a treasure to all of us

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Yesterday, I had a pleasant talk with Mrs. Terry Hudgins and realized some corrections needed to be made (to the letter printed Aug. 30).

The "Peggy" was acquired in March 1961 by Capt. Ed Grinnell and he owned it for 40 years and after that, the Granberys purchased the boat from Captain Ed in 2001. The Granberys owned her in 2008 and in the spring of that year they donated her to the Mathews Maritime Foundation.

Let’s go back in time. In the early ’40s, the "Peggy" was an open deck boat that Capt. Richard Burroughs used for fishing for 36 years. In Captain Ed’s era, he changed the coloring and the engine. Captain Ed put an 871 Detroit engine in and her signature colors were orange and white and it remained that way to the current day.

I meant no disrespect to the family and I can remember when I was younger how sweet the Grinnell family was to me.

The "Peggy" is a treasure to all of us.
