Letter: The man behind the chili

This past Saturday night, the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad’s annual Chili Cook-off was held for the fourth year in a row. Not only did a very large group enjoy great chili, bread pudding, cornbread and other goodies, but it has developed into a great social event for Mathews County. Furthermore, it has been a valuable fundraising event for the rescue squad and the various nonprofits that do so much for the county.

The person responsible for this great event is Ron Lambert. It was his idea and he and his wife, Debbie, spend many hours handling all the details required in the planning and execution of the event. He lines up the various sponsors, arranges for tickets, does the advertising; generally keeping everyone moving in the right direction to make this event such a success.
