The loony left? How droll. Capt. Mark A. Truscott (“Another view on gun control,” March 1 Readers Write) has written the most arrogant letter I’ve seen in the G-J, sneeringly dismissing the opinions of those who disagree with his apparent position that everyone should own a military-style weapon. This Loony Lefty believes guns of mass destruction belong exclusively with the military and the police.

The AR-15, along with other similarly designed guns, was developed for the military to kill as many people as possible with the greatest efficiency. There is no other purpose for this weapon, regardless of what the NRA has been selling. And it appears to be the rifle of choice for mass murderers. Limiting its availability, and those like it, would at least make mass killings harder to accomplish. This would leave an array of other types of weapons with which to hunt and protect one’s home.
