Letter: The importance of civics

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The question asked in the Feb. 18 Gazette-Journal editorial, “How would you do?” is exceedingly relevant to many of today’s issues on the state and federal level, especially with regards to the immigration lawlessness that the Obama Administration is promoting; but has been temporarily halted by a federal judge in Texas. The editors write that “some 780,000 men and women” completed legal immigration in 2013 which included answering basic questions on American history. Then they challenge readers to take the test themselves.

Another version of this canvass are those YouTube snippets on the internet produced by think tanks where someone is asking people on street corners if they can name the three branches of the federal government.
